Choices for Our Land  #8901
This 30 minute video shows that farming can still be an attractive financial option throughout the Northeast. Experts in seedlings, perennial flowers, berries, organic poultry, specialty vegetables, garlic and sheep, baking bread and keeping bees, talk about their methods, their markets and the financial return. Also covered are some ways farm land can be protected from development by special assessments, deeded use restictions and sale of development rights.

Building an Organic Soil  #8902
This 30 minute video examines the science of soil and discusses how healthy soil is created. Professional soil experts and farmers explain how soil is formed, the many varieties of it to be found in the Northeast, its structure, the manner in which nutrients are created and used, and how soil deficiencies can be identified. A number of methods of building a living, fertile soil are presented - composting, liming, manuring, pasturing, rotating vegetables with animals tilling and erosion control.

Organic Weed Control  #9001
Finally a separate video on the major problem confronting organic vegetable farmers - weeds! This 30 minute video discusses weed identification and control measures, including crop competition, tillage, cover cropping, grazing, crop rotation, sheet mulches, transplanting and focused irrigation. In this narrated video we meet both farmers and researchers, and learn about these techniques in the classroom as well as see examples of them in the field.
