cantaloupe, then the watermelon. any suggestions appreciated. I never saw the
critters, only the damage.

vegetable farm located at Sylvester Manor, a history-rich private estate and former
plantation on Shelter Island, NY (between Long Island's north and south forks). This
is our first year in operation. This year we are taking the first steps in a much
larger project: the creation of an educational farm that will focus on food and
culture. Our responsibilities include managing the field and garden for our
25-member CSA and caring for our chickens and other livestock that are on the way.
We are all musicians and integrate that into our work, whether it be singing in the
fields or playing together in our free time. Applicants need not have farm or
instrumental/vocal experience, but must be enthusiastic about farming, food, and
music. Good qualities to have are patience and creative problem-solving (since
we're a new farm there are kinks to work out). We provide housing, a stipend of

job training program for students in Upstate New York. Under the Farmer’s
supervision, students will build high tunnels and use other season extension
techniques to grow organic vegetables and sell them to local restaurants through
much of the year. Students will receive food and monetary stipends for their
participation. The Farmer should have practical experience, organic preferred, in
farm management from composting to market sales. The right candidate must be
comfortable working with youth; past teaching or training experience necessary. This
